You will feel that while a laptop computer or a computer has been running for a long time. That PC or laptop starts to behave abnormally. It is compulsory to cool your personal computer to use it smoothly. However, all computers and laptops have their basic cooling system, and it works just fine in most cases when you apply those cooling systems.
Nevertheless, sometimes you need to cool a computer or laptop manually. So, to cool a computer or laptop, you can buy accessories. You can arrange a proper environment to cool down the personal computer. Besides, you can use software to keep cool a computer or laptop.
How do you know that your computer crosses its normal temperature?
There are various steps to know your computer temperature.
- Malfunction of a computer
- Manual check
- From the BIOS Utility
- Using software
1. Malfunction of a computer
If your computer or laptop gets too hot, you will feel some abnormal behavior on your PC. Suddenly you will feel your computer becomes very slow to work. And, sometimes your computer restarts often without any warning.
2. Manual check
This one is the easiest option. You can feel your laptop or computer temperature by touching it. A temperature-measuring tool (thermal scanner) is the best option to measure the PC temperature. This will provide you the accurate measures. If it crosses the maximum temperature then the PC is overheated.
The manufacturer designs a laptop to work at a standard temperature that ranges from 10 to 35 degrees Celsius. A desktop is designed to work until 50 degrees Celsius as well as if it crosses these limits then it becomes overheated.
The working temperature of a processor depends on the manufacturer. You can check the manufacturer manual to know the temperature range.
3. From BIOS utility
You can check your laptop or desktop temperature with the help of the BIOS menu. Open the BIOS menu on your PC and get the computer temperature.
If you do not know how to open the BIOS menu, then this article will help you “How to open BIOS utility?”.
4. Using software
This is the simplest tricks to check PC temperature at any time. You only need to install software on your computer. Following are the list of software, which you can use to monitor PC’s temperature
- HWiNFO
- HWMonitor
- Core Temp
- SIW
I suggest you not to install any temperature monitor software on your PC. However, you can use it, if only it is really needed. If you need more effectiveness then avoid it.
What would happen if you do not maintain the temperature of a PC?
PC maintenance is of the utmost importance in the long run. If you do not maintain your PC’s temperature, it can hamper the PC. It decreases computer or laptop performance. High-temperature count causes computer malfunction.
Furthermore, high temperatures can damage your computer processor or other electronic parts used inside the computer. If this occurs, you will find the repairing cost is highly expensive.
Therefore, always maintain your computer or laptop temperature. Always try to keep cool a computer or laptop.
The most efficient way to cool a Computer or laptop
You can use different techniques to cool your PC. By using these tips and tricks, you can stop overheating on your computer.
1. Keep your PC in a proper place.
2. Avoid heat-generating materials near the PC.
3. Control the room temperature.
4. Free from dust.
5. Check PC cooling system.
6. Upgrade PC cooling system.
7. Add extra cooling fans.
8. Use thermal paste.
9. Avoid overclocking your processor.
10. Shut down or keep in the sleep mode for a few minutes
1. Keep your PC in a proper place:
This is a mandatory tip to cool a PC. Generally, we always do not take it seriously. Remember, always try to find a place in the room where air moves freely, and keep your laptop or PC in that place.
2. Avoid heat-generating materials near the PC
If you find a heater or other electronic material, that generates heat near your PC. You should move them straight away to another location. Always remember, do not keep any heat-generating devices or stuff near your computer or laptop.
3. Control the room temperature
If you can control your room temperature then it is huge. You can use Air Cooler (AC) to cool a computer room. I suggest you keep your room temperature to approximately 25 degrees Celsius.
4. Free from dust
Dust is the big enemy of your computer. On the computer, it is urgent to deliver fresh air to some particular parts to protect them. Dust works like an insulator as well as it blocks the airflow. So, always try to keep your PC clean.
5. Check PC cooling system
In general, a computer or laptop has a standard cooling system to cool the processor. For this purpose, manufacturers use cooling fans. If cooling fans are unable to provide fresh air or they are not fully functional, then your PC gets overheated. To cool the PC you need to replace the damaged fan.
6. Upgrade PC cooling system
You can also upgrade your Computer cooling system. But, this process is an expensive one.
7. Add extra cooling fans to the CPU case
In a desktop computer, you can add more cooling fans to cool a computer. Before trying to add new cooling fans in your system, check your CPU cabinet compatibility. If your cabinet supports multiple cooling fans, then you can buy and use them. Otherwise, you cannot add any new cooling fan to your system. However, you can add new fans, by upgrading to a new CPU cabinet.
8. Use thermal paste
If you have recently changed your processor cooling fan, then it is necessary to use thermal paste. Do not forget to apply the thermal paste before placing the new CPU cooling fan.
9. Avoid overclocking your processor
Most modern computer processors can be overclocked. After overclocking you will get significantly faster-processing speed on your computer. If you need high processing speed to complete your task, you can overclock your processor speed. You can overclock your processor in the BIOS utility.
However, overclocking a processor increases computer temperature at a faster rate. If you do not have any modern and proper cooling system, then always avoid overclocking tricks.
10. Shutdown or keep in sleep mode for a few minutes
If you feel your system is overheating, then you can use this technique to cool your computer or laptop instantly. First, save your work and shut down your computer or laptop. Thus, you can cool down the computer temperature. Alternatively, you can choose the sleep mode option to cool down your PC. Remember, you need to wait for a few minutes to allow your PC to cool.
Tips to cool a laptop
Now you have different ideas to cool down the computer’s temperature. You can also use all the above techniques to cool down your laptop. It is hard to upgrade the laptop cooling system and to add some extra cooling fans. However, do not worry; at this point, I am giving you an extra tip for you to cool your laptop.
For your laptop, you can purchase an external cooling pad to control your laptop temperature. You can place your laptop computer over the cooling pad. The cooling pad fan blows the fresh air to the laptop. Thus, you can control the temperature of a laptop in the summer.
Here, I am dividing the ways to cool down a computer into two groups.
a) The inexpensive way to cool down a computer
